Biography
James’s RSM timeline:
• 2002: joined RSM as a graduate in audit
• 2005: joined the M&A team
• 2015: promoted to Partner
• 2020: became Head of M&A in the North West region
• 2021: became Head of M&A nationally
James is Head of M&A at RSM UK and co-leads the media and technology sector within the M&A team. James has over 17 years’ experience with a focus on private company M&A. He works with clients to deliver a wide range of services including advising on company sales, acquisitions, management buyouts and private equity fundraising. In recent times, James has led transactions valued in excess of £1bn in total in the UK and globally. James has strong experience in the SaaS, IT and telecoms sub-sectors and a niche specialism within additive manufacturing (3D printing).

I have a passion for the technology sector, and strong links to the private equity community. I also enjoy leading a specialist team of people.’
Outside of work, James juggles a busy family life, with most of his time spent trying to convince his family to support his beloved Liverpool football team (with varying degrees of success) and as a taxi service for his two children. James has a passion for cricket and although he has mainly hung up his cricket boots, he enjoys managing his daughter and son's cricket teams at Lindow and when allowed, enjoys the occasional round of golf.
Favourite thing about RSM
It can sound flippant to say it's all about the people, but it is so true. This includes the people I've been lucky to work with, work for, learn from and share the highs and lows with over the last 20 years. I'm proud of the M&A team, we have some amazing people coming through the business... I'd better watch out! I've been fortunate to have operated in the mid-market all my career and met some brilliant family, owner managers and entrepreneurs along the way.
